As an entrepreneur, Michael funded his shoestring startup with under $1,000 of his own money he led the firm to a 12,000 fold growth in its valuation. This tremendous growth has been internally funded only from cash flows with no debt. As an Executive Michael landed the firm on “Washington’s 100 Fastest Growing Private Companies” list published by the Puget Sound Business Journal in 2004, 2005, 2006; while generating a compound annual average growth rate of 40% per year for his entire career. All this growth was produced organically with no acquisitions. More extraordinarily, none of this growth came from our advisors taking clients from a previous employer. We are proud our growth has been exclusively in the most ethical form.

As a Business Owner and Leader Michael has been recognized as being an innovator. He was recognized in 2002 by Puget Sound Business Journal as one of Seattle’s “Top ‘40 under the age of 40’ Community Leaders” *. Reflecting his passion to create a new and more just organizational model, all employees who have been with the firm for more than a year have ownership participation in the form of either stock grants or outright shares of ownership. This includes not only advisors but unlicensed and administrative staff. Perhaps most impressively, during Michael’s entire three decades as an advisor and Executive, neither he nor anyone in the firm received any disclosable client complaints or were subject to any regulatory actions. Clearly expressing his “team first” values in his work, when he left his role as CEO he was the lowest paid full-time employee in the firm.

As a Marketer Michael, broke new ground for financial services firms. In July of 1996 he taught himself HTML and designed, coded and promoted what might have been the first web site in the United States for an independent financial advisor. Michael made use of link, banner and tile advertising in the 1990s and with virtually no competition on the web at that time organic growth was exponential. Leadership continued in the 2000s with videos, a blog and social media.

As a Philanthropist Michael was recognized nationally among financial advisors by Invest in Others for his work with African orphans in Zambia. In his role as chief welder he helped to build a school in Zambia from which many highly regarded students have graduated and he taught dozens of village headmen western leadership principles for combatting the devastating effect of AIDS in their land. Together with his wife Elizabeth, Michael funded the construction of an orphanage in southern Zambia near lake Kariba in Zambia. He founded and is President of a charity which is dedicated to connecting people with people and with nature and he leads an annual family nature camp which is completely funded by the charity. The Boones also love to share their passion for travel with others having acted as group tour organizer, funder and guide for over 50 people on international adventures who would have otherwise likely not traveled.

Michael is an enthusiastic learner. As a student, he earned a BA from the University of Puget Sound with two majors, Business and Psychology. Recently he has continued his education by taking professional finance and management courses at some of the finest business universities in the world:
